Amott Road Baptist Church

Baptist
Congregation: 18 adults (5 under 18)

Inspired by the Anabaptist tradition, our core values are peacemaking, creativity and justice. Our gatherings are inter-generational, relaxed and multi-voiced. In 2018, Alexandra Ellish was appointed as the minister, with a mandate to revitalise and replant the church, exploring new approaches to mission and ministry. Numbers are slowly growing after a period of decline, we celebrated our 150th anniversary in 2023, and the building was renovated during 2025 with a new community kitchen to make it more hospitable for the three congregations and other community groups that use it. Further works are planned.

Outreach, Activities & Ministries

Local Outreach & Community Activities
Our building is used by a number of community groups, including a drama group, a men's group and a band. A youth psychotherapist also works out of the building. We have partnered with The Robes Project to provide a night shelter in the winter and intend to do this regularly. We have hosted an arts and food event and a tenth anniversary event for our friends, Peaceful Borders, including an exhibition of photographs. In March we will host a music event. Further such activities are planned. Outreach into the local community is primarily through relationships.
