What is our only hope in life and death? That is the first question in a document called the 'New City Catechism' and it is a question that many of us will have considered in our own lives. The Bible gives us a clear answer to that question and it is not a 'what' but a 'who' - Jesus Christ. When we turn and trust in Him we have hope through His death and resurrection; a hope which means the forgiveness of sins (when we don't live in the way we should), a restored relationship with God, the creator of the universe and a future with him in paradise into "an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade." (1 Peter 1:4).But this hope is more than just wishful thinking, it is not a hope that will let you down unlike other places where we may choose to put our hope. It is a hope that the Bible tells us is "an anchor for the soul, firm and secure." (Hebrews 6:19). It is a hope that is worth having, as it is assured. That is why it is often called a true or living hope. This is the hope that we have as a church and it is the hope that we want to share.
