The Priory Church of St Bartholomew the Great

City

St Bartholomew the Great is an active Anglican/Episcopalian Church. We extend a particularly warm welcome to new and regular visitors to this ancient church founded in 1123. The shrine-tomb of our blessed Founder, Prior Rahere, stands on the north side of the sanctuary. The church survived the Great Fire of 1666 and two World Wars. St Bartholomew the Great has a reputation for wonderful architecture, traditional formal worship, marvellous music and intelligent preaching. It appears in Four Weddings and a Funeral, Shakespeare in Love, The End of the Affair and in BBC2's Madame Bovary. The Lady Chapel is set aside for private prayer. Requests for prayer may be left on the board by the bookstall.
